BizTalk Migration Reduces Costs, Improves Performance
Project at a Glance
RDA managed the migration from BizTalk 2002 to BizTalk 2004 for a leading truck manufacturer without disrupting business operations. The new environment improved the performance of existing applications and reduced operational and maintenance costs.
About Our Client
Our client is affiliated with one of the leading heavy truck and engine manufacturers in the world. The company manufactures a broad line of Class 8 trucks and tractors, both on-highway and vocational.
Background
RDA’s client had an existing BizTalk 2002 implementation which served as the interface between their ERP system (SAP) and their in-house developed CRM application. While the application was operational at the time of the engagement, the company realized they would be able to improve performance and reduce operational and maintenance costs by upgrading to BizTalk Server 2004. The migration needed to be completed quickly, with minimal disruption to business operations. They sought the assistance of RDA due to our in-depth knowledge of Microsoft BizTalk Server.
Solution Detail
RDA assisted our client in the development of a migration strategy and implementation plan, and with code updates and the migration itself. For the migration, the BizTalk 2002 solution was ported to BizTalk 2004 and then regression tested. Once prior functionally was confirmed, the application was modified to leverage new features of BizTalk Server 2004 for improved performance and reliability. This included calls to in-house web services, and the implementation of third party database connectors to reduce the amount of code that needed to be maintained.
Benefits
BizTalk 2004 orchestrations are compiled (as opposed to the interpreted BizTalk 2002 orchestrations), which provided an immediate performance increase for our client. In addition, the reduction in the amount of custom code required to achieve the needed functionality resulted in reduced maintenance costs.
