Loan System Requirements Gap Analysis for Student Lending Leader

Project at a Glance

RDA worked with senior management of a Student Lending Leader to develop a roadmap for implementing a new loan origination system that more effectively responds to changes within the industry and new federal regulations.

About Our Client

RDA's client is one of the nation's leading originators and holders of insured student loans. They provide a full range of education financing products and services to meet the needs of students, parents, schools and lenders. Our client serves approximately 1.7 million customers and over 3,000 schools nationwide.

Background

Our client sought RDA's expertise in business applications when it was preparing to invest in a new student loan origination system to more effectively respond to federal regulatory and private industry changes within the student loan industry.

The existing system was a mainframe-based legacy origination system that was expensive to maintain and lacked the capabilities offered by more current alternatives. Our client was considering replacing this system with a distributed system using a Windows front end and an Oracle back end.

RDA was recommended by another client within the industry as an ideal partner to assist this client with a requirements gap analysis due to our expertise in business processes and technology, as well as our familiarity with the student lending industry.

Solution Detail

RDA provided requirements gathering, system analysis and senior level management assistance to our client throughout the course of this effort. We were tasked with understanding the functionality of their current system and comparing that to potential replacement systems. In the process, we documented gaps between system capabilities and their unique business requirements.

Our team built use case scenarios and formulatedrequirements for the replacement of our client's mainframe loan origination system with a distributed base system. The goal was to establish an analysis approach based on their current business processes with sufficient detail to procure a new loan origination system.

RDA's assistance throughout the requirements phase of the project led into the implementation of the new system. Our team continued to function as analysts and requirements experts for this phase.

In addition, RDA took on a project management role within our client's Quality Assurance department. Our QA involvement included interfacing with their department directors and the CEO.

Benefits

Working in conjunction with the senior management team, RDA helped to establish a strategic direction for system implementation that complemented our client's business requirements.
